This website intends to explore the evolution of the corrido from revolutionary folk balladry at the turn of the 19th century to its current incantaion as folk balladry glamorizing the cross-border drug trade and associated violence.  Part of this exploration will be through the lens of Americo Paredes and the idea of the warrior-hero taking up arms under righteous circumstances while another part of this exploration will include comparisons to the American pop-culture phenomenon known as hardcore rap and how narcocorridos and hardcore rap idealize the “anti-imperialist culture conflict hero” (Morrison 2008:386).
